First / Second Notice

Your check is complete and results meet the employer’s criteria.

Consider

Employer is reviewing your results

Your check is complete. The employer is reviewing results and will make a hiring decision.

Rejected

Adverse action has been taken

The employer made a final adverse decision. You still have the right to dispute inaccurate information.

How long does a background check take?

Most checks complete in less than one business day. Checks requiring manual courthouse retrieval, employment verification, or international searches may take up to two weeks. Responding promptly to any Turn agent request is the single most effective way to avoid delays.

Your Report

How to Access and Download Your Report

Once your check is complete, Turn sends a secure link by email and SMS.

Check Your Email and SMS for the Turn Notification

Turn sends a secure, personalized link to the email and phone number provided by your employer. If you cannot find the link, contact support@turn.ai to request a new one.

Verify Your Identity to Unlock the Report

Turn asks you to verify your identity using the last four digits of your Social Security Number, phone number, or driver’s license.

Review Your Full Background Check Report

Turn displays the same report shared with your employer. Review the information carefully and dispute anything inaccurate or incomplete.

Save a Copy of Your Report for Records

Turn recommends saving a PDF copy of your report before the secure link expires. Use Print, then choose Save as PDF.

Identity data cannot be corrected through the report link. If your name, date of birth, or SSN appears incorrect, email support@turn.ai directly. These corrections require manual verification.

Troubleshoot

Common Issues, Solved.

Find your situation below. Each answer tells you exactly what to do and when to escalate to a Turn agent.

Troubleshoot – Part 1

Status and Delays

First, check your email and spam folder. Turn agents frequently send requests for additional information during this stage. If you have not responded to a Turn request, that is most likely the cause of the delay. If you have not received any requests and your check has been in Processing for more than five business days, contact Turn Support with your full name, email address, and the employer's name. Contact Turn via live chat (fastest) or support@turn.ai.
Verifying means a Turn agent is manually reviewing your information because something does not match public records. Common causes include using a nickname instead of your legal name, a typo in your date of birth, or a name change not reflected on official documents. Turn will contact you by email and SMS. Respond as quickly as possible.
Green checkmarks mean those specific searches finished, but one or more components may still be running in the background. If all visible components show green and your status has not changed after 24 hours, contact Turn Support so an agent can identify what is still outstanding.
International criminal record searches take 2–12 business days in most countries. Employment and education verifications can take 1–10 business days depending on the country and institution. Some jurisdictions require in-person courthouse retrieval. Contact Turn Support if your check has exceeded two weeks without an update. Reach us via live chat or support@turn.ai.

Accessing Your Report

Check your spam or junk folder first. If it is not there, the email address your employer submitted may contain a typo. Contact Turn via live chat to have the link resent to the correct address.
Report links expire after a set period. Contact Turn Support to request a new access link. Have your full name and the email address associated with your check ready. Email support@turn.ai or use live chat to request a new link.
Once you open your report, right-click the page, select Print, then choose Save as PDF. Note that a different employer may order a different package, which would be a separate check.
Troubleshoot – Part 2

Identity Verification

This means the SSN you provided does not match public records. Common causes include a transposition error, use of an ITIN instead of an SSN, or a recently issued SSN. Email support@turn.ai directly. Identity data cannot be updated through self-service.
Name mismatches are one of the most common causes of the Verifying status. Turn will ask you for documentation such as a marriage certificate, court order, or updated government-issued ID. Email documentation to support@turn.ai with your full name and employer name in the subject line.
After uploading, allow one business day for a Turn agent to review your document. If the document is unclear, expired, or does not match what is on file, Turn will contact you for a different one. If you have waited more than two business days, contact Turn Support via live chat to confirm the document was received.

Motor Vehicle Records

An MVR is only included if your employer ordered it as part of your screening package. If it was ordered and appears absent from your completed report, contact support@turn.ai.
Turn's MVR pulls directly from state DMV records. If your DMV record has not been updated, the old status will still show. Contact your state DMV to confirm your current status is correctly recorded. Then contact Turn Support with documentation of your current valid license via support@turn.ai.

Hiring Decisions

Turn does not make hiring decisions and cannot evaluate or contextualize information for an employer. If you want to provide context about an accurate record, contact the employer directly. Email compliance@turn.ai if you need your hiring manager's contact information.
Turn cannot override an employer's hiring criteria. What Turn can ensure is that the report it provided is accurate, complete, and FCRA-compliant. If information on your report is inaccurate, file a dispute. Many states have additional fair-chance protections beyond the federal baseline.

Report Accuracy

How to Dispute an Error on Your Report

If you believe any information on your Turn report is inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated, you have the right to dispute it under the FCRA. Turn will re-investigate and correct the report within 30 days if the information is found to be wrong.

Identify the Error

Note the exact record or detail you believe is incorrect. Include specifics like case number, date, employer, school, or record type.

Gather Supporting Documents

Collect documents that support your dispute, such as court records, expungement orders, employer letters, transcripts, or government-issued ID.

Contact Turn Support

Submit your dispute by email, live chat, or support ticket. Include the disputed item and attach any supporting documentation.

Turn Reinvestigates

Turn reviews the dispute within 30 days and verifies the information. If corrected, updated reports are sent to you and the employer.

Common Dispute Scenarios

Check Still Processing

Reply to the Turn email or SMS directly, or contact live chat if Turn has not reached out yet.

Check complete with inaccurate information

Submit a dispute via support@turn.ai or the support center with supporting documentation.

Identity data needs correction

Email support@turn.ai directly. Name, DOB, and SSN corrections require manual verification.

Record from a county you never lived in

This can indicate a shared-name false match. File a dispute immediately with documentation that places you elsewhere during the relevant period.

Important. Filing a dispute does not automatically pause a hiring decision. If you received a Pre-Adverse Action Notice, contact Turn Support immediately so Turn can correct the report before the employer's waiting period expires.

Adverse Action

Received an Adverse Action Notice? Here is What Happens Next.

The FCRA requires employers to follow a two-step process before making a final adverse employment decision. Understanding the timeline protects your rights.

Pre-Adverse Action Notice

Before making a final decision, the employer must send you a Pre-Adverse Action Notice including a complete copy of your report and the CFPB Summary of Your FCRA Rights.

Receiving this notice does not mean you have been rejected. Dispute via live chat or support@turn.ai. The sooner the better.

Dispute Window: Act Immediately

Review your report carefully. If you find any inaccurate information, contact Turn Support immediately to file a dispute. Turn has 30 days to complete its reinvestigation.

Final Adverse Action Notice

If the employer proceeds, they must send a Final Adverse Action Notice restating your rights: a free copy of your report within 60 days, your right to dispute accuracy, and Turn's contact information.

Turn did not make this decision. The employer sets all hiring criteria.

State and local laws may give you more time and more rights. California, New York City, Los Angeles County, Illinois, and many other jurisdictions require additional steps beyond the FCRA baseline. State-specific information is available at turn.ai.

Your Rights

Your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act

The FCRA is a federal law that protects you when a background check is used in an employment decision. Turn Technologies is a Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA) operating in full compliance with the FCRA.

Your Rights – Part 1
An employer must notify you in writing and get your written authorization before ordering a background check.
You are entitled to receive a free copy. Turn sends you a secure link when your check is complete.
If an employer is considering an adverse decision, they must send you a notice with a copy of your report before finalizing.
If your report contains wrong, incomplete, or outdated information, you have the right to dispute it. Turn must complete its reinvestigation within 30 days.
Your Rights – Part 2
If the employer proceeds, they must send a Final Adverse Action Notice and confirm your right to a free report copy within 60 days.
Turn provides the report. The employer sets its own criteria and makes all hiring decisions.
If your FCRA rights are violated, you may have the right to seek actual, statutory, and punitive damages plus attorney's fees.
Many states and cities have protections beyond the FCRA. State-specific information is available at turn.ai.
